The Basement: The Study (Las Vegas, NV & Los Angeles, CA)

The Study, Seriously, go play this room right now
"The Study" is the newest room for the much talked about location,"The Basement". The storyline revolves around a cannibalistic killer who captures you and locks you in his basement. After you escape "The Basement", you end up on the first floor of the house and have to find your way out of "The Study". While the continuity of the story is great, we played them in the reverse order and it was perfectly fine.  The BIG difference with this room and others of a similar "Psycho killer" theme is the immersiveness and in-game actors which make for an amazing escape room.

"The Study" had a max capacity of 10 people, open to the public but we were lucky enough to have only our group of 6 people play here. This room had a perfect immersive experience, if there even is such a thing. The decor, the sound effects and the rollout of the story were the best we've ever experience so far. The room was creepy but not in a horror house fashion so it's fine for those who dislike haunted houses like me. The in-game actor played a critical part of the game and the puzzles were unique and innovative. There was a good amount of secret rooms and great automation which we always appreciate.

The part that we enjoyed the most was...everything. Like many room, being with a group of friends and no more than 6 people made the experience significantly better than if we were with strangers at the max capacity of 10. Everything just blended together seamlessly and we felt we were in our own movie.

Pros: Perfect immersion and seamless integration of all aspects of the game
Cons: Game master is needed for a lot of the puzzles, teacher giving you orders :)

  1. Be careful bc the guy who worked the front desk told us the study puzzle that didn't work for us was "finicky". We spent 10 min on a puzzle that didn't work after four of us tried it correctly.
